Watts and Imperial agree sale of four Truck & Van depots
9/02/2012
The family-owned WATTS Group has agreed the sale of four Watts Truck & Van Centre
depots - Gloucester, Worcester, Hereford, and Yate - to Imperial Commercials, one of the
UK’s largest commercial dealership groups.
The WATTS operations in South Wales, based in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, remain
part of the Watts family of businesses.
The four English depots will continue to trade as Watts Truck & Van in the short term before being rebranded as IMPERIAL Commercials.
Initially the IMPERIAL business will trade from the existing Watts Mercia Road site but
eventually will move to a purpose-built dealership on the Hempsted Lane site in Gloucester
that Watts will provide for Imperial. The existing Watts employees will remain with the business that has been acquired. Those employed in the Watts operations in Cardiff, Swansea, and Newport are not affected by the change of ownership.
This agreement does not diminish the commitment of Watts to the DAF, Fiat Professional
and Nissan franchises in South Wales and to the long term development of these
businesses.
John Thurston, WATTS Group chairman, said: “We are very grateful to our staff for
providing and maintaining high standards of customer service and professionalism. Whilst
this was a very hard decision to take, it was the best way to secure the future of the
businesses and employees transferring to Imperial. In addition we are pleased to be
building a new dealership for Imperial on our Hempsted lane site; not only will this provide
outstanding levels of service to Gloucestershire businesses but it demonstrates Watts'
ongoing commitment to the county that it has been serving for more than 100 years. The
transfer of these four depots will enable us to better focus our effort and resources on therecently acquired Welsh Truck & Van businesses and we look forward to a successful future for the Watts family of companies."
IMPERIAL Commercials Managing Director Ian Oakes said: “Watts Truck & Van Centres are a well respected long standing DAF and Fiat Professional franchise operation and a great fit within our existing franchises in the West of England. I look forward to welcoming everyone on board, and meeting staff and customers alike.”
