  • 40 new DAF XF 6x2 tractors supplement initial 36 DAF fleet delivery in 2018
  • New fleet purchased outright to replace DAF competitor models
  • Local aftersales support from DAF dealer, Watts Truck & Van key to deal
  • “The DAF XF has established itself in our fleet as a solid, reliable and very productive truck. It is also very popular with our drivers” Commercial Director, Eurof Owen

One of the UK’s leading independent family-owned hauliers, Owens Group, has ordered a further 40 DAF XF 480 6x2 tractors with Super Space Cabs for its fleet. The order follows 36 same-specification trucks delivered in 2018 which at the time signalled Owens’ return to the market-leading DAF marque after a ten-year absence.

This latest DAF fleet, featuring DAF’s ‘FTG’ mid-lift axle configuration, will replace competitor models and boosts DAF’s presence in the company’s fleet to over 100 vehicles; in excess of 25% of 400 HGVs. The company also reports that ‘outstanding levels of support’ from local DAF dealer, Watts Truck & Van in Swansea and Newport, has been a key factor in the decision to remain with the DAF marque.

“The DAF XF has established itself in our fleet as a solid, reliable and very productive truck. It is also very popular with our drivers,” says Commercial Director, Eurof Owen, “The DAF delivers on all key operational parameters, including fuel economy where we regularly see an excellent mpg return. We have also been able to achieve fantastic service levels for our customers due to the excellent uptime and this has contributed positively to the business growth year-on-year. Where DAF really stands-out, however, is outstanding levels of support locally. We’ve formed a true partnership with Watts Truck & Van,” he said, “and I know, with Watts in support, our DAF fleet is fully utilised.

“We’re also taking this latest DAF fleet on outright purchase as we have great confidence in that the asset will command strong residual values. Again, Watts Truck & Van will play a key part in ensuring the fleet stays in tip-top condition while we extract maximum uptime from the trucks.”

Including its van fleet, Owens is Wales’s largest independent logistics and warehousing companies with over 550 vehicles, 850 trailers and 2m sq. ft. of warehousing supporting its Logistics, Pallet Distribution, Bulk Haulage and Express & Home Delivery fleets.
